LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – When a car was stopped by Louisville Metro Police for reckless driving it was the passenger who ended up going to jail.

Officers made the stop at Floyd and St. Catherine streets at 5:41 p.m. October 28. An arrest report states the woman passenger in the front seat was "verbally combative" and wouldn't answer any questions she was asked.

The pregnant woman was told to wait in the car, but opened the door as the officer was returning to his car. When the officer went to close the door, the woman, Coretta N. Thomas, 18, of Louisville, kicked the door open hitting the officer.

When Thomas was told to calm down, she punched the officer in the face. The report says Thomas continued to punch, bite and kick the officer after he grabbed her hand. When a second officer tried to help restrain Thomas, he was struck in the nose.

After being told she was under arrest and told to stop swinging, Thomas kicked one of the officers in the groin.

During a search after she was in custody, police found a bag in Thomas' pants pocket believed to be a controlled substance.

Thomas was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections on two counts of assault on a police officer, one count of resisting arrest and one count of possession of a controlled substance.
