Anniversary of train derailment marked

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – October 29 marks the one year anniversary of an accident that prompting evacuations along a stretch of southwestern Louisville Metro, along with parts of Hardin and Bullitt counties.

After a train carrying dangerous chemicals derailed, a section of Dixie Highway south of the Gene Snyder Freeway, along with the area around West Point was shut down and evacuated.

It took days before crews were able to remove cars that contained hydrogen fluoride and butadiene and clean up the site of the derailment.

P&L Railroad, the company that owned the trains, was forced to pay residents who had to relocate.
