EFD gains five new firefighters

The Evansville Dire Department swore in five new firefighters on Tuesday night.

The new firefighters are Jarrod Brown, Evan Crowley, Grant Lively, David Wilder and Tara Higgins.

Higgins is the newest female to join the ranks of around 275 Evansville firefighters.

"I just think about how much I've learned, how much I have to learn and how much I'm going to enjoy this. It's really an honor to serve the citizens in this way," Higgins said.

Higgins will be one of under 10 women in the department.
