A young mother of four was killed after colliding with a school bus early Thursday morning.
Kathleen Reinzan, 25, was leaving third shift at the Waffle House in Edgewood, KY and attempted to turn left onto KY 17 crossing over southbound lanes.
A Kenton Co. school bus heading to Summit View and Twenhofel Middle Schools struck the vehicle.
The impact caused both vehicles to cross to the northbound lanes of Madison Pike where Reinzan's vehicle then struck a third vehicle.
There were four special needs children, a driver, and a monitor on the school bus. Tall students were wearing a seatbelt and were uninjured.
As his family cried in the background, Michael Eaton stepped forward outside the Waffle House in Edgewood to talk about his sister, Kathleen Reinzen.
They told us she died on impact," Michael said, holding back tears. He went on to say his sister was a woman he loved and looked up to. "She was a great mom. She loved her kids. She took care of them as best she could."
Kathleen had just started work about a month ago at the Waffle House; it is a new franchise location.
"When someone loses their life, the only thing you can do is to pray for their soul and their family and friends. That's what I am doing here right now," said Norman Self, a patron at the Waffle House.
All day at the restaurant, there was a somber mood as patrons and staffers tried to understand their loss. Many declined to speak on camera with FOX19.
"She's still young. She still had a long life. She could have done anything," said Eaton.
Reconstruction teams had one lane of the road shut down for at least 4 hours.
Police believe Reinzan was not wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
