Gov. Jan Brewer's request for a federal disaster declaration for flood-ridden Greenlee County has been denied.
Brewer's office announced Friday that the Federal Emergency Management Agency rejected the state's request for federal assistance.
Powerful rain storms hit Greenlee County from Sept. 13 to 17, bringing six to eight inches of rainfall.
Brewer said the financial support was needed because the flooding caused significant damage to roadways and infrastructure, and caused major safety issues for people in the county.
FEMA also had denied aid in August for the Yarnell wildfire that destroyed more than 100 homes.
Brewer said in a statement that she was frustrated but not surprised by the denial. She said President Barack Obama's administration has a pattern of denying aid to Arizona.
FEMA's denial said the damage wasn't beyond Arizona's ability to handle.
