Retailers getting into holiday spirit; offering early bird specials
LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Shoppers don't have to wait until Black Friday to catch some amazing deals, because they are already online.
Walmart.com and amazon.com were gathering some sweet deals to lure in customers. Walmart is offering several deals on items like TVs and tablets that would normally be featured after Thanksgiving and on Cyber Monday.
They are calling these deals early bird specials. Some shoppers said having more time to shop is better. This year there are six fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas than in 2012, which is putting more pressure on retailers this holiday shopping season to meet their bottom line. This pressure for stores means a golden opportunity for shoppers.
"It kind of lets people get an early jump on their Christmas stuff," said Donte Sims, a shopper. "Like with me, I'm more of a last minute shopper and it never works out well so it kind of helps people get that extra jump on it."
Stores aren't the only ones getting into the Christmas spirit. One radio station in town, 100.5 announced it will become Gen X-mas Radio from now until December 25. The station said it will play nothing but familiar holiday favorites.
Some shoppers said while Christmas in early November isn't the norm, it's a present they'll gladly accept early.
