LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A bicyclist seen going the wrong way down a one way street by a cop was arrested on multiple charges after he tried to evade police.

An officer observed Darrell Mudd, 49, of Louisville, riding his bike in the wrong direction on West Ormsby Avenue near Dixie Highway in the Park Hill neighborhood Monday at 10:30 p.m.

According to a police report, Mudd was drinking a beer while he pedaled down the street. When the officer got out of his car, the suspect threw his open beer on the sidewalk, abandoned his bike and tried to run away, police said.

The officer chased him for a short distance but was able to catch him. During the chase, police said he tried to put a baggie in his mouth. The officer was able to get the baggie before Mudd could swallow it, the report said.

Police found 15 individually wrapped baggies of a substance suspected to be crack cocaine inside the larger bag, according to the report.

The arresting officer said the drugs seemed to be packaged to sell.

Mudd was arrested and charged with first degree trafficking in a controlled substance, tampering with physical evidence, fleeing or evading police and drinking an alcoholic beverage in a public place.
