Opening statements begin for man accused of murdering mother of five

CLARK COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - Opening statements in the trial of a Corydon man accused of murdering a mother of five started Tuesday.

According to authorities, Lisa Mcquirt, 32, from New Albany was shot on February 18, at an apartment in the 600 block of Kenwood Avenue. She was taken to an area hospital where she died.

Police arrested Ronald Shewmaker and charged him with murder.

During Tuesday's statements the prosecutor said Shewmaker and Mcquirt had gone out a few times when she worked as a dancer at Bottoms Up Show Club in Louisville.

Shewmaker is facing up to 65 years in prison if found guilty.
