LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A man accused of beating to death his girlfriend's 4-year-old son agreed to a plea deal.

Johnny Juliot, 29, pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter on Tuesday and was given a 15 year sentence in prison.

The family of Tony Hack, 4, said they are not happy about the plea deal. They were ready for Juliot's trial to begin on Tuesday, but the news of this deal was very upsetting.

Tony's family said they do not believe that sentence is justice for him.

Investigators believe Juliot was watching his girlfriend's son in December of 2010 when he hit him in the head so hard the boy suffered multiple skull fractures. Little Tony died two days later.
Tony's grandmother, Catherine Milliner, said she had strong words for the man who killed her grandson.

"I said that I wanted him to rot in prison that I wanted him to have nightmares and to remember Tony's face and what he did to that baby," said Milliner.

The plea Juliot took was an Alford plea, which means Juliot accepted there was enough evidence to convict him, but he is not admitting to the crime.

Under the agreement, Juliot pleaded guilty to manslaughter, criminal abuse and tampering with physical evidence.

While at one time, the state was planning on seeking the death penalty in this case, a spokesperson told WAVE 3 News he is not sure what led to the decision of this plea deal.
