JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - Plans to delay the opening of a Big Four Bridge ramp in Jeffersonville this month drew mixed reactions from pedestrians Wednesday.

"I enjoy being on the water," said Michelle Price. "It's just beautiful.

This past summer, Price began walking the pedestrian bridge weekly. Since then, Price said she has had to modify her route.

"I would walk across maybe twice and down and around," began Price, "then they started the bridge construction and I couldn't walk the whole waterfront."

The blocked off Jeffersonville ramp had been slated to open in November, but changes in ramp railing and lighting have since led to delays. Jeffersonville Mayor Mike Moore did not wish to speak with us on-camera about the hold up. Instead, the mayor deferred to the Indiana Department of Transportation. Calls to the INDOT were not immediately returned.

It's discouraging news to frequent walkers like Brenda Tuckson who has been monitoring the ramp's progress almost daily.

"I just sort of notice what rails are up and how many rails are up and there's painting that's been done since two days ago," said Tuckson. "I was looking forward to it and hoping somebody has a nice little coffee shop over on the other side."

The Jeffersonville Big Four Bridge ramp is now tentatively set to open in 2014.
