LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A car out of place in a construction site led police to two men who are now facing a slew of charges.
Early Tuesday around 12:15 a.m., officers spotted a Ford F-150 pickup truck parked in a construction site with its lights off in the 600 block of South English Station Road near the intersection of Interstate 64 and the Gene Snyder Freeway.
Police observed Hemeregildo Gonzalez, 45, sitting in the driver's seat of the truck and Jose Gonzalez, 47, in the passenger seat.
According to an arrest report, police discovered Jose to have a warrant. Upon searching him, officers found two straws with white residue inside of them on his person and a baggie with what appeared to be cocaine in it sitting outside of the passenger door.
The truck had a temporary tag, police said, and when they ran it they found the tag belonged to a stolen 2001 Audi A4.
Hemeregildo told police the truck they were in belonged to his place of employment, Alex Body Shop.
Officers said they were parked next to a fuel tanker. Police also saw a large container in the truck bed of the F-150, covered with a tarp.
When asked about the container, the driver told police it holds about 100 gallons and is used to transport water.
The officers on the scene lifted the tarp to find a few gallons of red diesel fuel in it, as well as hoses and two electrical pumps in the bed of the truck.
An arrest report indicates the tanker sitting next to the pickup had been tampered with; all the exterior doors used to house tools were open, the pump fuel was open and the main filling access door on top of the tanker was open.
Officers reported the tanker had diesel fuel in it.
Both men were arrested. Jose Gonzalez is charged with receiving stolen property worth $10,000 or more, possession of a controlled substance, theft of gasoline by unlawful taking, possession of burglary tools and theft of a motor vehicle registration plate.
Hemeregildo Gonzalez is charged with receiving stolen property worth $10,000 or more, theft of gasoline by unlawful taking, theft of a motor vehicle registration plate and two other violations not detailed in the police report.
