LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man was arrested Wednesday after running from police into an enclosed women's shelter.
According to police, Jordan New, 21, was witnessed walking around South Preston Street. Police regard this area as a high theft and high narcotics spot.
When New saw police, he allegedly stopped and turned his direction. When officers asked his name, they recognized him as a person who had warrants. The police asked New if he had anything illegal on him, and New apparently took off running.
A chase ensued for about 6 blocks where police witnessed New climb an 8 foot wall into an enclosed women's shelter. After realizing he had nowhere to go, police said he climbed back on the wall and sat on the top while refusing to come down.
Officers said they tased New because they feared the safety of the officers and women in the shelter.
New is being charged with fleeing or evading police, resisting arrest and criminal trespassing.
