Spartanburg County deputies said they have arrested two people accused of breaking into a Chesnee home then setting it on fire - and the victim says they also stole their cat for a few days.
Doug Campsen said his daughter's cat, Toby, was inside her Chandler Downs Way home in Chesnee when two burglars came in.
"Everything was turned upside down," Campsen said.
Campsen said the burglars also set fire to the house before leaving. He said his wife and their 5-year-old granddaughter discovered the fire when they went to feed Toby.
Deputies said evidence showed the fire was intentional and discovered several items were stolen from the home.
Despite the loss, Campsen said everyone's concern was on Toby because he was nowhere to be found.
For three days, they feared Toby had run off or had died in the fire, but then Campsen said he saw a carrying cage at the end of his driveway.
He said someone dropped Toby off there and later learned from deputies that the suspects had taken him but for some reason decided to return him.
"My granddaughter lit up like a Christmas tree, she was so elated that her cat was home," Campsen said.
He said they received more good news Wednesday when deputies arrested two people in connection with the fire and thefts.
Deputies said David Freeman, 31, and Joanne Kennedy, 27, were arrested and charged with grand larceny, first-degree burglary and third-degree arson.
With his daughter's home being rebuilt, the accused in custody and Toby back home, Campsen said everything is OK.
"She lost everything, but she has her cat," he said.
Freeman and Kennedy are being held at the Spartanburg County Detention Center without bond.
