Ramsey: Timeline for UofL's move to the ACC not a done deal

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The timeline for the University of Louisville's move to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) next season isn't a done deal, according to university president James Ramsey during an interview Friday with 84WHAS, a media partner of WAVE 3 News, and the University of Maryland is the holdup.

UofL has been expected to join the ACC in July 2014 after finishing a single season in the American Athletic Conference. Nicknamed "The American," the conference is made up of the remaining members of the Big East Conference following the departure of seven Catholic universities from the conference. Those schools retained the Big East name.

Ramsey told 84WHAS' Tony Cruise on Friday that "a lot of things [have to] fall into place" before UofL can join the ACC as planned. "Maryland's got to leave, and they're, you know, challenging their payout that was changed," Ramsey said. "But if they get out, we believe that we'll be ready... to move right in."

Maryland is in the midst of a lawsuit filed by the ACC, which is seeking a $52 million exit fee from the university for leaving the conference and joining the Big Ten.
