Son of Jeffersonville City Council member victim of gunshot wound; house fire

Jeffersonville, IN (WAVE) – Clark County Coroner Terry Conway said the two people who died in the Jeffersonville fire Saturday, died as a result of gunshot wounds.

The coroner identified the deceased as Morgan J. Julius, 26, and Courtney Grimm, 27, both of Jeffersonville.

Julius is the son of Dennis Julius, a member of the Jeffersonville City Council. Dennis Julius recently confirmed he was running for mayor of Jeffersonville in 2015.

"Both victims were found in the bathroom of the residence by Jeffersonville firefighters performing search and rescue operations," Conway said in a release. "The Jefferson County Medical Examiner's Office has determined the cause of death for both victims to be from the result of gunshot wounds, and there is an ongoing investigation being held by Jeffersonville police."

The fire started at 2:00 P.M. on Starview Court. Jeffersonville Police said a neighbor called 911 after seeing smoke come from the home.

The coroner said he has no further comment and is referring all questions to Jeffersonville Police Detective Todd Hollis.

Funeral arrangements for Grimm are pending and are being handled by Scott's Funeral Home in Jeffersonville. Julius' arrangements are still pending.
