Woman killed in fire identified; coroner seeking next of kin

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The woman killed in an apartment fire in the Park Hill neighborhood has been identified.

Mary Gipson, 45, was found in a second floor bedroom by Louisville firefighters. Jefferson County deputy coroner Eddie Robinson said Gipson died from smoke inhalation.

Fire crews were called to the 1500 block of South 9th Street, near Hill Street and 7th Street, around 3:15 a.m. When they arrived, smoke was coming from the second floor.

The fire was contained to the bedroom where Gipson was found. All of the other residents made it out safely.

The Jefferson County Coroner's Office is looking to find relatives of Gipson. If you have any information regarding next of kin, call 502-574-0140 and ask for Deputy Coroner Robinson.
