Clermont I-65 rest stop closed due to semi leaking chemicals

CLERMONT, KY (WAVE) – A rest stop on Interstate 65 in Bullitt County has been closed after a semi parked there was found to be leaking.

The leak was discovered around 2:20 p.m. coming from a semi parked on the back side of the facility off southbound I-65 near mile marker 114.

According to the Bullitt County Sheriffs Office, a trucker called 911 to report a possible antifreeze leak. The trucker than told dispatchers the leak was coming from one of the 30 drums of chemicals he was hauling.

The semi, which was carrying a mixed load of chemicals, was headed to an environmental waste site. The chemical or chemicals leaking have not been identified.

Hazardous material crews from Bullitt and Jefferson counties are on the scene working to identify the product and stop the leak.

The incident is not affecting traffic on I-65.
