LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A teenager is suffering from a broken arm after being struck by a car in the Fern Creek area.

MetroSafe said the accident happened at 4:40 p.m. in the 5500 block of Bardstown Road, near Gabriel Lane.

According to Louisville Metro Police Department spokesperson Alicia Smiley, a 13-year-old boy left St. Gabriel Gym and was attempting to cross five lanes of traffic to go to a Speedway when he was hit by a 1993 Honda in the northbound lane of Bardstown Road.

The child was taken to Kosair Children's Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the Honda was the only person in the car at the time and did stop. The driver was cited for not having an operator's license and allowed to leave the scene.

Initial reports indicted the child hit was under the age of 12, but investigators later learned the child was 13 years old.

Traffic in the area was reopened at 5:55 p.m. The LMPD Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.
