LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A narcotics detective accused of shooting a man while he was off duty has quit his job.

According to Louisville Metro police, former LMPD Detective Chauncey Carthan shot Ishmael Gough, on 24th Street near Chestnut Street on September 4, 2012 after he said Gough was tailgating him.

Following the incident LMPD Chief Steve Conrad said the department's public integrity unit suspected Carthan may have been drinking alcohol before the shooting.

Carthan had been on administrative leave since the shooting and pleaded not guilty to a string of criminal charges in September.
