LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Four dogs were rescued from a house after police charged their owner with cruelty to animals for dog fighting.

According to a police report, Abe Jeffries, 37, was caught because of an anonymous tip. Officers found four dogs at his home on North 36th Street in the Shawnee neighborhood of Louisville. Two of them had scarring "indicative of current and past dog fighting."

Police said they also discovered dog fighting paraphernalia, including veterinary supplies to treat wounded animals, on the property.

The dogs themselves were on chains without adequate shelter, according to officers at the scene. They were removed from the home on October 30.

On November 12 at 10 a.m. Jeffries was arrested and charged with four counts of first and four counts of second degree cruelty to animals, one for each dog.
