Disfigured woman undergoes first surgery

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A woman with a hole in her face after being misdiagnosed and mistreated for cancer has undergone a successful surgery.

Lessya Sennik struggled to survive in Russia where she received the unnecessary radiation treatments. Sennik who is disfigured because of the radiation, was recently brought to Louisville for treatment by her cousin.

University of Louisville doctors, led by Dr. Jarrod Little, will give Sennik a series of life-changing surgeries that will cost $1 million.

At the age of 19, Sennik given a misdiagnosis of terminal cancer. The radiation treatments she underwent left her unable to speak, chew or exhale.
