LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Kentucky's senior senator will face a Louisville businessman in the GOP race to keep his seat.

Matt Bevin made his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat held by Mitch McConnell official when filed papers in Frankfort today. The Tea Party Republican has said it's time for a change.

WAVE 3 News caught up with Kentucky's junior senator, Rand Paul and asked him about the attack ads from the candidates.

"It's not my position to get in the middle of that race to tell you the truth and say who should advertise, how they should advertise," said Paul (R-KY). "But I think ultimately, people, elect you for what you are for, not necessarily always for what you are against."

The 2014 primary is Tuesday, May 20. The winner of the McConnell-Bevin race will likely face Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Democratic front-runner, in the November 2014 general election.
