Springfield firefighter injured while battling house fire

SPRINGFIELD, MA (WSHM) -

A Springfield firefighter was sent to Baystate Medical Center Monday morning after he received injuries while battling a house fire on Durant Street.

There is no word on the extent of his injuries, but officials said he is expected to be OK.

Six adults and three children lived in the home. No one was there at the time of the fire.

The house sustained around $80,000 in damages. The Red Cross is assisting the family.

The cause is still under investigation.
