LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The company that operated the charter school bus involved in a June accident on Interstate 64 is ending operations.

According to a Jefferson County Public Schools spokesperson, JCPS transportation officials have been notified that Commonwealth Bus Service is going out of business.

The district tells WAVE 3 News that as of December 1 they will no longer have buses from Commonwealth in their fleet.

On June 11, the left front tire on one of two Commonwealth buses carrying students from Waggener High School back from a trip to Eastern Kentucky University blew. The bus crashed into the center median barrier sending 35 of the 42 people onboard to the hospital.

A Louisville Metro Police accident report said the tire that blew causing the crash was 11 years old.

On November 8, Jefferson County Public Schools announced it was suspending business with Commonwealth Bus Service and Transportation until they could further review the contract between the two.
