SCOTTSBURG, IN (WAVE) - Two men are under arrest accused of stealing cars from an investigation that started with an unrelated crime.

Earlier this month, Indiana State Police were chasing after a fugitive on foot when they found a stolen passenger van in the woods in a rural section of Scott County.

Scott County deputies investigated and found the van was stolen out of the Indianapolis area in September. The van and another stolen vehicle were found on land owned by Ricky L. Nasby, 50, of Scottsburg.

Nasby was picked up November 19 by ISP. He's facing auto theft and possession of a vehicle with an altered vehicle identification number.

Charles F. Newby, 42, also of Scottsburg, was arrested November 14 in Seymour. He is charged with two counts of auto theft and two counts of altering the ID tag of a motor vehicle.

Both men are being held in the Scott County Jail.
