(RNN) - A soon to be released service seems to be the epitome of "catfishing." The only thing is, you're kind of "catfishing" yourself.

In popular lingo, "catfishing" is the act of using a false identity on Facebook or other social media to pursue a deceptive online romance.

Invisible Girlfriend provides convincing proof of a fake relationship for guys who want to fool friends, coworkers or family into thinking that they are seeing somebody.

Developers say it's the sort of thing that can come in handy during the holiday season if your family and friends are always nagging you about when you're going to partner up.

"Are you dating someone? Invisible Girlfriend gives you an answer – along with believable virtual and real world proof – so you can get back to living life on your own terms," the website states.

There are three plans you can buy to create a believable girlfriend from a library of potential girls.

The "Just Talking" $9.99 plan includes interactive text messages and automated phone calls. The $29.99 "Getting Serious" plan includes a Facebook relationship (because we all know it's official once it's on Facebook). It features real voicemails and random gifts and notes. Finally, there's the $49.99 "Almost Engaged" plan which includes live phone calls, customized girlfriend characterization and the chance to create your own story.

Creator Matt Homann told Buzzfeed there could be numerous reasons for lying about having a girlfriend.

"Our audience might come from a variety of situations: maybe they're in a same-sex relationship they're hiding from disapproving relatives, are trying to avoid the unwelcome advances from a coworker or have chosen to focus on their work instead of romance," he said.

The company is planning to expand into offering an Invisible Boyfriend.

"We're not trying to build a girlfriend they can believe in — that's a whole other level of technology," Homann told Buzzfeed. "We're giving them a better story to tell, even if the story isn't true."
