LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The University of Louisville confirms it is "looking into" the online auction of what is presented as Cardinal forward Chane Behanan's 2012 NCAA Final Four ring.

UofL Sports Information Director Kenny Klein said Friday the University became aware of the auction Tuesday night.

Currently, it is unclear whether the ring is authentic, how it wound up on an online auction site or what role Behanan might have played in the its posting. Photos accompanying the ring on the website greyflannelauctions.com show Behanan's name inscribed on the side of the ring.

The ring, if authentic, was presented to Behanan following the Cardinals' Final Four run in the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

A similar incident in 2011 led to the downfall of Ohio State head football coach Jim Tressel and player Terrelle Pryor. Pryor and several other players were caught giving championship rings, jerseys and other NCAA memorabilia to the owner of a tattoo parlor under federal investigation for drug trafficking in exchange for tattoos. Pryor was dismissed from the team. Tressel resigned after it was revealed he had learned about the players' arrangement with the tattoo parlor's owner and failed to report it.
