Murfreesboro Salvation Army serves residents on Thanksgiving

Instead of having a community-wide Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless and needy families, the Salvation Army in Murfreesboro decided to do a more personalized meal for residents who live in its shelter.

The great Thanksgiving meal was made possible by people in community donating items.

About 20 people, both men and families who had nowhere else to go, got a chance to eat the traditional Thanksgiving fixings.

Salvation Army officials said they decided to do it this way in order to give the residents a personal touch.

"It's more than a physical meal here. When you come to the Salvation Army, you know you are going to be treated well and you're going to get something to feed your stomach and your soul," said Salvation Army Lt. Andy Seiler. "A kind word and loving saying on today to say that we love them on Thanksgiving."

Murfreesboro Salvation Army officials said when they used to do the community-wide Thanksgiving meals, by the times those in need arrived, they had already had multiple meals. They felt the resources were better used by serving those they serve on a daily basis.
