NEW YORK (AP) - Flat Out powered past the field with a five-wide sweep to win the $500,000 Cigar Mile on Saturday at Aqueduct.
Javier Castellano was the riding star with five wins, including a trio of $400,000 stakes: Stopchargingmaria in the Demoiselle, Wedding Toast in the Comely and Honor Code in the Remsen.
Flat Out rebounded from an eighth-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Classic with his ninth win in 29 starts. Junior Alvarado rode for trainer Bill Mott as the 7-year-old rallied from seventh, gradually pulling clear in the deep stretch for a 1¼ length score.
Private Zone, the pacesetter, held second at 32-1. Verrazano, winner of the Wood Memorial here in April, was third.
