Area shops get 'Small Business Saturday' boost

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)- A day after the Black Friday rush, thousands turned out to shop locally for 'Small Business Saturday.'  

'Small Business Saturday' is in its third year and is part of a nationwide campaign sponsored by American Express. Local businesses across the country are offering up special deals in an effort to encourage holiday shoppers to keep their money in their city.  

Small business owners said they have noticed more and more shoppers getting in on the action.  
Business owner Dustin Baron said rightfully so.  "As most people know, it's kind of like the fabric of the community," he said of small businesses.  
Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer said local businesses give the city its unique flavor.  Nulu buzzed with shoppers Saturday.  
Rellek is a fine consignment store located in the 800 block of Market, its owner Gregg Keller said, "today's been exceptionally good."

It is estimated that more than 40,000 businesses took part in Small Business Saturday.
