Bellarmine's Jones Garners GLVC Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honors
INDIANAPOLIS – Bellarmine University senior guard Keisten Jones has been named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office Monday.
Jones led the third-ranked Knights to a pair of wins over Indiana University-Southeast and King University over the holiday break in the Bill Joergens Memorial Classic, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana.
In Bellarmine's 88-75 victory over IU-Southeast on Friday, Jones scored 22 points on 8-of-10 (.800) shooting, while grabbing eight rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal. He responded the following night with another 22-point effort on a perfect 7-of-7 shooting to go along with three rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal in an 84-71 result over King.
Entering the week, the Louisville, Ky., native was fifth in the nation with a 78.9 field goal percentage, and actually improved on that figure by ending the weekend shooting 88.2 percent (15-of-17) from the field. His stat line also averaged to 22 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game.
This is the first weekly honor for Jones and the first for a Knight since Chris Dowe was recognized by the league on Dec. 17, 2013.
Bellarmine is back in action a week from today, battling West Virginia University Institute of Technology at Knights Hall on Dec. 9, at 7 p.m. ET.
