LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A shooting in west Louisville led to a wild ride to a downtown hospital for four people including the victim.

Louisville Metro police said the shooting happened around 1:20 p.m. Tuesday at 32nd Street and Virginia Avenue. Three friends of the victim put him in a gray Chrysler and sped toward downtown.

Witnesses reported seeing a speeding Chrysler, so police were on the look out for the car when an officer spotted it at Brook Street near Norton Hospital. LMPD spokesperson Officer Carey Klain said the driver of the Chrysler ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle at Gray and Brook Streets before the officer could approach the speeding car. Klain said the Chrysler continued on to the Norton Hospital emergency room.

The other three people inside the car were coming out of the hospital when police arrived. Klain said all three of them ran. Officers caught them after a short chase. They were not arrested, but Klain said they were talking with investigators trying to sort out what happened.

The shooting victim was transported to University of Louisville Hospital. His condition was not immediately known.

The 24-year-old woman who was driving the car that was hit also was taken to University Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The status of the shooting is unknown at this time.
