LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - In the short-term, we look breezy and warm this afternoon with highs well into the 60s. Spotty showers will be around.
Thursday looks to be slightly cooler as the developing winter storm approaches. We are expecting moderate to heavy rain to overtake the area Thursday night.
It now appears colder air will move in after midnight Thursday from the northwest. This will change rain over to freezing rain across Kentucky and to sleet and snow across IN.
Friday looks to be a rough day with sleet/snow (some moderate to heavy) across southern IN near the Ohio River, with mainly freezing rain across KY. By Friday late day/evening, everyone will change to snow.
Ice accumulations look higher across KY and snow amounts look higher across IN. Amounts will vary highly based on location. Either way, it will be below freezing Friday night so area-wide slick roads are expected.
Saturday looks dry. Late Saturday into Sunday will feature a risk for freezing rain and perhaps significant icing across northern KY and southern IN. That part of the forecast is still being evaluated. Stay tuned to more adjustments/changes.
