LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – After an unsuccessful attempt to force others to drive a getaway car, police arrested a man in connection to a shooting and subsequent car accident in west Louisville Tuesday afternoon.
According to police, Tony Churchill, 25, was driving a car which fled the shooting scene at 32nd Street and Virginia Avenue after 1:30 p.m. Officers said he got into a wreck about four miles away at Brook Street and Gray Street downtown.
Police said Churchill then fled on foot down Gray Street before jumping into a car with two people inside which was not involved in the incident. According to an arrest report, he attempted to intimidate the driver and passenger into driving him away from the scene.
Instead, those people jumped out of the car and fled on foot, police said.
Churchill was taken into custody and charged with second degree robbery, hit and run, and fleeing and evading police. Officers did not explain why he is charged with robbery.
Another man, Chad Smith, 28, is also charged with hit and run and fleeing police in relation to this incident. The details of his arrest have not been released.
