LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – More than 100 motorists were involved in accidents in the Louisville Metro area by Friday evening, according to MetroSafe.

MetroSafe Public Information Officer Jody Duncan said a Level 1 EOC Activation remains in place for specific areas. Residents in those areas have been notified by EMA members.

From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Duncan reported MetroSafe received 1,116 calls, including 729 calls to 911.

In the same 4 hour period Duncan said nine hit-and-runs, 18 injury accidents, 104 non-injury accidents and 123 stranded motorists were reported.

As of 6 p.m. Jefferson Street to 3rd Street in downtown Louisville remained shut down due to an electrical vault fire. Cardinal at Brook and Floyd Streets was also shut down.

Louisville Metro Public Works is continuing to work to clear the roadways.

MetroSafe advises anyone who must drive during the storm to stay on main roads and avoid back road shortcuts, let someone know your destination, your route, and when you expect to arrive. They also say to leave plenty of space between you and the car ahead of you and not to suddenly accelerate or brake.
