Know Before You Go: Week of December 9

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Due to the ongoing construction project to build both the new downtown and east end crossings, traffic will be affected on the following roadways during the week of December 9.

Louisville Streets:

Jackson Street from Jefferson Street to Market Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, December 14 for work on a storm sewer.

The right lane of westbound Witherspoon Street from River Road to Adams Street is scheduled to be closed through Saturday, December 21 for work on a retaining wall.

The right lane and right parking lane on eastbound Market Street from Jackson Street to Hancock Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, December 21 for work on a retaining wall.

The right lane and right parking lane on Preston Street from Market Street to Liberty Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, December 21 for pile driving.

The left lane and both parking lanes on Jefferson Street from Jackson Street to Preston Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, December 21 for pile driving and excavation work.

The right lane and left lane of Liberty Street from Floyd Street to Preston Street are scheduled to be closed through Saturday, December 21 for excavation and demolition work.

Kentucky side:

Work scheduled to begin Tuesday, December 10:

The right lane of the ramp from I-71 South to I-65 South is scheduled to close overnight Tuesday, December 10 and Wednesday, December 11 for work on temporary lighting. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m. both days.

Work scheduled for Friday, December 13:

The right lane of I-65 South from the approach to the Kennedy Bridge to the I-64/I-71 merge with I-65 is scheduled to close overnight Friday, December 13 for work on a temporary barrier wall. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

The left lane of I-64 East from 3rd Street to just east of the I-71 North exit is scheduled to close overnight Friday, December 6 for work on a temporary barrier wall. It's expected to close around 9 p.m. and reopen by 5 a.m.

Louisville Streets:

Work scheduled to begin Monday, December 9:

Floyd Street from Liberty Street to Muhammad Ali Boulevard is scheduled to be closed Monday, December 9-Monday, December 23 for pile driving.

Witherspoon Street from just east of Louisville Slugger Field to Clay Street is scheduled to be closed Monday, December 9-Wednesday, December 11 for work in the area.

Continuing Closures and Restrictions:

Kentucky Side:

The ramp from I-64 East to I-65 South closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through the spring of 2016.

The right lane of I-65 South from the Jefferson Street ramp to Muhammad Ali Boulevard closed July 15 and is scheduled to be closed through 2016.

Indiana Side:

Broadway Street has closed from Court Avenue to 6th Street. This includes the closure of the 6th Street ramp to I-65 North. These are permanent closures.

7th Street has closed from Missouri Avenue to Broadway Street. This is a permanent closure.

VFW Boulevard has closed from 7th Street to 9th Street. This is a permanent closure.

US 31-South (Exit Ramp 1) from Brown Station Way to Stansifer Avenue has been reduced to two lanes.

US 31-South, in the area just south of Stansifer Avenue, has been reduced to one lane. Vehicles are still able to exit onto 10th Street.

The actual starting date and duration for the work may be adjusted if inclement weather or other unforeseen activities occur. Also, given the aggressive overall construction schedule for the project, Walsh DBT may shift work schedules when opportunities arise. Kentucky: Blasting schedule for week of December 9:

Blasting to prepare for the new tunnel in the east end of Louisville is scheduled to occur near the intersection of U.S. 42 and KY 841 during the week of December 9.

The dates and approximate times (within 15 minutes) will be:

•Monday, December 9, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.

•Tuesday, December 10, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.

•Wednesday, December 11, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.

•Thursday, December 12, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.

•Friday, December 13, at about 11:30 a.m. and again at about 2:15 p.m.

Prior to each blast, traffic must be stopped for five to twenty minutes for the safety of the workers and the traveling public. Traffic stops during the blasts will occur on KY 841 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and U.S. 42, and on U.S. 42 between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Bridgepointe Boulevard. In the event of unfavorable weather or other unforeseen activities, blast times may occasionally change.

NOTE: A message will be posted on the project website at www.kyinbridges.com Thursday of each week regarding the anticipated blasting schedule for the following week. Pre-blast surveys are ongoing; no blasting will occur within 500 feet of any residence prior to the completion of a pre-blast survey for that residence.

Kentucky: Road Closure on River Road December 13-16:

East End Crossing construction activities will result in a road closure in Kentucky on River Road in the area between Wolf Pen Branch Road and Timber Ridge beginning Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. River Road will be reopened by Monday, Dec. 16 at 5 a.m. This area of River Road will remain accessible to residents who are in the in affected area.

Indiana: Traffic changes for December 2013 - March 2014:

The following traffic changes will occur in Indiana beginning mid-December 2013 through March 2014.

•The ramp from northbound SR 62 to westbound 265 will be closed. A detour will be in place for traffic to access westbound SR 265 from northbound SR 62.

•The current westbound lanes of SR 265 will be closed with traffic utilizing newly constructed crossovers. All eastbound and westbound traffic will use the current eastbound lanes.

•Port Road traffic will be shifted west to the current southbound lanes in the vicinity of Centennial Blvd. and the SR 265 and SR 62 interchange. This arrangement will likely continue for approximately one year.

Weather conditions and unforeseen delays could affect the aforementioned schedule.
