LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A man who witnessed a purse snatching at a downtown Louisville restaurant Sunday night chased the suspect down the street and wrestled a knife away from him, according to police.
Michael Williams, who turned 33 on the day of the incident, walked over to a woman's table at a restaurant at 301 W. Main Street, grabbed her purse and stuffed it under his jacket, an arrest report states.
A man who witnessed the purse snatching ran after Williams, police said. Williams dropped the purse and was chased by the witness for three blocks, at which point Williams pulled out a knife, according to the report. Police said Williams and the witness fought over the knife before the witness managed to take it away from the suspect.
The witness told officers he feared for his life during the incident.
Williams is charged with theft by unlawful taking and first-degree wanton endangerment.
