LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Several Kentucky singers are in the national spotlight as they compete on NBC's "The Sing-Off."

A group from the University of Kentucky, The Acoustikats, moved from serenading girls on campus to the big stage hoping to win over the hearts of viewers with their southern charm.

The group was in Lexington as the show premiered Monday and put on a concert at Keeneland before it hit air.

Acoustikats member Jeremy Lewis said prepping for the show was stressful and a lot of work but also, "It was a dream come true for all of us and we can't wait to share that with you guys."

The guys describe their singing style as "Justin Timberlake mixed with fried chicken."

NBC said several members of another group competing on the show, Ten,  also call Kentucky home.

Most of the group lives in Dallas, Texas but the eclectic group's leader convinced other singers from around the country to put their individual careers on hold and travel south.

Ten had never performed together before the show.
