ELIZABETHTOWN, KY (WAVE) - A Hardin County high school teacher arrested Monday night on a sexual abuse charge involving a student has been fired by the district.

Edwin Bonet, also known as Edward Bonet-Ruiz, 54, of Radcliff admitted hugging and kissing a 14-year-old female student in his classroom at Central Hardin High School in Elizabethtown on December 5, according to a spokesman for the Elizabethtown Police Department.

The arrest citation says Bonet, a Spanish teacher, also admitted creating a fake Facebook account to communicate with the victim. Police said the student provided "evidence of electronic communication from [Bonet]... indicating further sexual act or prohibited activities."

Hardin County Schools spokesman John Wright said the district was alerted about the allegations by Elizabethtown police on Monday morning and cooperated with the investigation.

Bonet, who is employed by Hardin County Schools under the name Edwin Bonet-Ruiz, has been employed by the district since 2000. He initially was suspended with pay, but district officials announced at a Tuesday afternoon news conference that Bonet had been terminated.

Bonet is charged with first-degree sexual abuse and prohibited use of an electronic communication system to procure a minor.
