LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man is accused of stealing approximately $1,400 from another man's wallet.

Police said Michael Michalski, 41, was introduced to the victim through a mutual friend. According to an arrest report, the friend asked the victim to loan him $20 on September 20. The victim opened his wallet in front of Michalski and took out a $20 bill.

When the victim and the mutual friend stepped out of the room for a moment, police said, Michalski helped himself to the rest of the cash in the victim's wallet: about $1,400.

The victim came back into the room, and Michalski handed him the wallet, saying, "You dropped your wallet." Michalski then ran toward his vehicle, and the victim realized his cash was gone.

The victim was able to get the suspect's license plate number and called Shively police.

Michaslski is charged with theft by unlawful taking.
