Bloom Elementary School declared safe after series of bomb threats

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – A Louisville elementary school was declared safe after a series of bomb threats Friday morning.

According to Louisville Metro Police Department spokeswoman Alicia Smiley, Bloom Elementary School in the Highlands received a series of voice mail messages and one live phone call from a person claiming to be a parent threatening to blow up the school.

Smiley said by the time 5th division officers and K9 units arrived on the scene, administrators had moved everyone to a cleared area of the building, the gym.

Only 100 or so people were inside the building because of the time of day the threats were received: between 8:30 and 8:40 a.m.

Christi Lanier Robinson with JCPS said students aboard buses en route to Bloom Elementary School were diverted to a neighboring school.

No one was allowed on or off the campus until the search was complete.

The all clear was given at 9 a.m.

The incident is under investigation.
