LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A tow truck driver is facing several drug charges after an incident in which a car he was towing fell off the truck, police said.

According to an arrest report, Jamie D. Jones, 42, a tow truck driver with his father's company, Dave's Towing, was towing a Chevy Impala on Bonaventure Boulevard Thursday night when the vehicle fell off, striking and destroying a mailbox.

Police said Jones left the scene of the accident but later returned, telling officers he had left to drop off a friend.

The arrest report says Jones admitted to an officer that he had marijuana hidden behind the driver's seat of the tow truck. The officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and located a black bag containing a large amount of marijuana along with an electronic scale and numerous sandwich baggies. The officer also found five baggies containing a white powder and suspected narcotics in the middle console, the report states. A large wad of cash was found in Jones' pocket, police said. All of the items are consistent with drug trafficking.

Jones is charged with trafficking in marijuana, trafficking in a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and leaving the scene of an accident.
