MADD holds vigil to bring light to drinking and driving

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – By candle light, loved ones are remembered.

"The candle represents our grief, our courage, our strength, our loved ones memory and the light of hope," said a participant.

"And the frustrating thing about it is when we go to a fatality and the first question we have is, could this have been prevented," said Lt. Richard Saint-Blanchard.

Of the 746 fatal crashes across Kentucky last year, 165 were alcohol related.

A fiery bus crash which was carrying a church group home to Hardin County from King's Island was the catalyst that prompted a national conversation about drunk driving.

Alcohol impairs judgment, vision and hearing as well as concentration, comprehension and coordination. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) said most of all it impairs the future.
