The Joy to the Woof program started to help the service dogs that are in Afghanistan and Iraq. The dogs save many of our soldiers each and every day! They face horrible conditions with the heat and the sand.  Their eyes are terribly affected by sand storms and dust storms and the pads on their paws burn in the hot sand. They can also get heat stroke from the temperatures and lack of fresh water. The Pewee Valley Veterinary Center is raising funds to provide goggles/doggles, kevlar booties, cooling vests plus healthcare items and some down time activities as well. They also plan to bring home a retired or as the military calls "excess" dog to local veteran Joe Sturm as soon as one comes up for retirement.

You can call Pewee Valley Veterinary Center 241-8834 to make monetary donations or for more information.

PVVC would like to thank teacher Jill Hall and the 5/6th grade class at the DePaul school that has adopted Joy to the Woof as their service project. They have raised enough money to send doggles, vibram boots, and cooling vests for 10 dogs
