LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man was arrested early Wednesday morning after a police officer spotted him riding a motorized grocery cart on a sidewalk, according to an arrest report.

Anthony Wedding, 19, told the officer an employee of the Kroger at 5530 New Cut Road gave him permission to drive the cart home. The officer contacted store management who disputed Wedding's claim, saying the man stole the cart, which is valued at more than $500.

The officer said Wedding smelled strongly of alcohol, admitted drinking a half-pint of alcohol earlier, and twice provided a false name to the officer who discovered that Wedding had a bench warrant for his arrest.

The cart was returned to Kroger without damage.

Wedding is charged with theft by unlawful taking, alcohol intoxication in a public place and giving an officer a false name.
