HILLTOPPERS OUTLAST SOUTHERN MISS, 68-65

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — WKU set season highs in field goal percentage, three-point percentage and free throw percentage in a 68-65 win over Southern Miss at E.A. Diddle Arena Wednesday, which moved WKU to a perfect 5-0 at home this season. With the victory, the Hilltoppers improved 6-4 on the season while Southern Miss fell 9-2.

Trency Jackson shined offensively in his E.A. Diddle Arena debut with a game-high 16 points off of 3-for-4 shooting from the field and 9-for-11 from the stripe. Fellow newcomer Chris Harrison-Docks also had a strong home opener, dropping 11 points.

T.J. Price and George Fant each added 15 points each while posting four and three rebounds, respectively. Fant's scoring performance led the junior to notching his 900th career point on The Hill.

As a team, WKU shot 53.1 percent for the game compared to Southern Miss' 44.7 percent. The Hilltoppers capitalized at the free throw line, making 26 of their 30 attempts.

Despite taking just 13 shots from the field in the first half, WKU carried a 30-25 lead at the half. After a Southern Miss 8-0 run gave the visitors a 13-12 lead, WKU went on an eight-minute drought without a field goal. However, a Caden Dickerson three-point basket sparked an 11-2 scoring spree to give the advantage back to the Hilltoppers.

WKU continued the momentum in the second half in part from Harrison-Docks' 4-for-4 effort from the floor, including three shots from beyond the arc. WKU led by as much as 10 with 14:30 to play. Southern Miss kept the contest close using seven three pointers to close the gap at 64-63 in the final 30 seconds. WKU sealed the win at the free throw line, making its last four.
