LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Parts of west Louisville got a makeover Friday as part of the third annual Clean up for Christmas event.
District 1 Councilwoman Attica Scott was out with crews braving the rain to haul away trash from areas that needed sprucing up.
City workers tackled waist-high grass and overgrown weeds.
Scott said residents complained something had to be done. "People are tired of living around blight and abandoned and vacant properties that are not being taking care of," she said. "What would it feel like to wake up on Christmas day, you've got visitors coming and running around your house are mice and possum because of that house next door?"
Scott said it will take $5,000 to clean up 27 properties over a two-day period. City workers are being paid out of district one's Neighborhood Development fund for the overtime.
