LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews closed one ramp of the Kentucky Interchange in downtown Louisville Friday night pending inspection of a deterioration in one support column.

Saturday morning bridges officials issued a press release saying the Kennedy Bridge would remain open pending the inspection.

"A decision was made to close the ramp as a precaution until a thorough inspection can be performed," said Andy Barber, KYTC Downtown Crossing project manager.

The ramp is within the area of the downtown crossing portion of the Ohio River BridgesConstruction project.

An alternative for motorists would be I-65 north to I-264 (Watterson Expressway) west to I-64.

The original piers have been around since the 1960.

More information is expected later Saturday afternoon.
