LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Nothing says Kentucky like bourbon, and nothing says Christmas like a good sugar cookie! Why not combine the two this season? I think I started a new Christmas tradition with the help of one of my dear friends. It's a new spin on the simple sugar cookie. All you need is some sugar cookie dough, cookie cutters (optional), icing, food coloring and bourbon!
Instead of traditional gingerbread men or Santa, simply mold your cookie dough into the shape of a bottle! Maker's Mark even sells cookie cutters! While the cookies are baking, mix your special icing together. We used vanilla icing, mixed with red food coloring. Then we added a dash of bourbon. The amount you add depends on how strong you want the cookies.
When you are ready to decorate, simply warm up your icing. No more than a few seconds though, you don't need an icing explosion. Then dip your cookies and let the icing drip a little. It will look just like the wax on top of a real bottle of bourbon! I made some underage cookies with regular icing too. Can't forget about the kids on Christmas! I hope you enjoy this quick cookie fix! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
