LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It's no secret that on Christmas Day many business shut down. But for some people, the holiday does not mean a day off. So, when it comes to where to go and what to do on Christmas, WAVE 3 News has got you covered.
If you're hungry, a few restaurants are keeping the stove on. In Louisville, the Denny's on Eastern Parkway near Crittenden Drive is welcoming customers all day and night.
"They're calling like crazy and wanting to know if we're open," said Denny's server Shannon Berger. "Most of the restaurants are not open but we are open. We are here to serve you with a smile."
"It's one of our busiest days of the year," said Tina Steier, a Denny's service trainer. "We get a lot of travelers, a lot of people that don't do the traditional cooking."
Many franchise Waffle Houses and International House of Pancakes are also offering 24-hour service on Christmas, including the IHOP on South Hurstbourne Parkway in Jeffersontown.
"I didn't want to cook breakfast just for two people," said Tanya Robinson, an IHOP customer. "So, I thought I would come out."
If you are in the market to shop this Christmas Day, a few stores are still open. In Louisville, the Walgreen's at South 3rd Street and West Southland Boulevard are sticking to their 24-hour schedule.
"My wife bakes. Yesterday when we bought pretzels, we accidentally got cheddar cheese pretzels," said Joseph Grove, a Walgreen's shopper. "You don't put chocolate on cheddar cheese pretzels; that's nasty. So, we gotta get pretzels."
According to IBTimes.com, the following businesses have select locations operating on Christmas:
7-Eleven: most open 24 hours a day will remain open on Christmas
CVS: many locations open on Christmas Day, some of which are 24 hours
Denny's: open nationwide on Christmas Day
IHOP: Many locations open on Christmas Day
McDonald's: Many locations open on Christmas Day
Starbucks: Many locations open on Christmas Day
Walgreen's: Most stores open on Christmas Day 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., pharmacies open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Normal 24 hour locations remain open.
If you've had enough of being cramped in the house, movie theatres are also a Christmas Day option. For some, like Oldham County Fiscal Court Magistrate Robert Leslie, the trip to Louisville's Cinemark Tinseltown USA is a bit of a tradition.
"We come sometimes to the movies on Christmas," said Leslie. "It's just kind of a fun thing sometimes if there's kind of a movie we can see that looks like it might be fun."
But, if you're not in the mood for the crowds, Red Box rental stations are always open. Add snacks from many of the open neighborhood gas stations, and this Christmas you should be all set.
